A trail for all
YB36568-G36834

Taking the most advantage of current internal and external landscape resources of Dayang Mountain, the designed trail not only offers accessible yet dynamic experiences for a broad spectrum of visitors, but also considers historical resources and ecological preservations. The designers envision an opened trail networks to meet diverse needs of different users and to encourage interactions among all groups including residents who are looking for selling farm products to the visitors, periphery workers who often jog after work, bikers and families who escape from urban settings for fresh airs and nature exploration during weekend or holidays, and even migrating animals between different habitats. Trail selection analysis: making the best use of existing resources Using big-data fueled urban modeling approach, the proposal at first simulates potential traveling routes and arrival spots of different visitors. Second, a suitability analysis (using GIS minimal cost distance method) is conducted to find areas of new trail additions that have minimal environmental impact on current landscape pattern and ecological resources. Third, the best areas for viewing external landscapes such as Tai Lake, Suzhou Old Town are calculated to add potential outlook sites along with existing rich historical scenic spots. These inputs help to identify the initial layout of entire slow traffic trail system. Experiencing dynamic landscapes The proposal highlights five touring types including cultural/historical heritage visitation, farming experience & food tasting, sports & biking, natural scenic views, and lookouts. Diverse trail types and vernacular landscapes along the way also provide changing experiences of space and vegetations. Further, the trail is also “accessible” through online to broaden connection with more audiences. A customized interactive map is created recording the information such as types of spots, real-time views, and ongoing public events of all attractiveness of Dayang Mountain.

Necklace of Dayang Mountain
YB36568-G36851

The project is located in Dayang Mountain in Suzhou, which is a historic and cultural city famous for its Suzhou garden. Suzhou garden is one of the most famous and impactive types of gardens in the history of traditional Chinese gardens. In Suzhou garden, all the buildings are connected by the corridors and paths, which enable visitors to see the different scenery as they walk through the garden. This inspired us that we decided to regard the whole Dayang Mountain as a huge "Suzhou garden". We connect all the scenic spot with the relevant trail system, with this system people can reach different points they want. As there will be diverse people going to use the trail system, we divide these people into three groups: riders, runners(exercisers) and travellers(visitors). Accordingly, we design three types of trail systems to meet the various needs of these people. The Mountain Circle serves for the riders and climbers, which could provide them with a long time experience. The Village Circle aims at the people who come to experience life in the countryside. They can also pick fruits, buy agricultural products and dining at the infrastructure along the trail system. And for the people living in Wanke Wanxiang Villa, we also designed a City Circle for them to do the daily exercise, this loop is really close to the city with uptown and forest park. It connects the city with the Dayang mountain and is convenient to reach.

Our idea came from the Central park, which cover by high density building. Because of the architecture density of Manhattan, central park not only become a valuable nature space physically, but also become an Eden for the citizen psychologically. Withe the research of Suzhou Development, We believed that Suzhou will become a high density city in the future. So, we wish Dayang Mountain walking system will shape as a loop rather than just a partial landscape design. It is more a urban design to us, so the loop become our idea. We called super loop slow tracking system.

Nowadays, people live in different circles. In circles we experience different worlds and we can grow up. Circles is the root of everything. The design divides the mountain into different circles and each circle is an independent world while they connect to each other to become a whole. People could find themselves in different circles.

Suzhou pop up

”The cricket's chirp and the patter of rain come to me through the dark, like the rustle of dreams from my past youth.“ Tagore related his memory of childhood with sound. When lost ourselves in this busy modern world, we wish Dayang Mountain slow traffic system become the place to hear the sound of nature and celebrate the richness of cultural heritage in Suzhou. Dayang Mountain locates in Suzhou city and next to one of the biggest lakes in China. The ecological diversity of the site is amazing, it is also known as the important stop for migratory birds. On the other hand, Suzhou is the city with the most cultural heritages in China. Our landscapes are not only artistic beautiful, but also create an active experience with different approaches to hear the landscape. By using technology, we are able to record the sound, collecting data for research and share it with the world. It uses an interesting way to engage people in this walking experience. We restore the ecosystem on site for animals but also creating stops like bird blind to provide wildlife listening experience. Space design like the underground tunnel and cliff walk allows people to be partly "blind" to have a better ability to listen to the world.

Suzhou is a unique city with a series of forest mountain parks situated within its regional planning. The brief calls forth an innovative solution to turn one of its mountain into a melting pot of slow-walking system; to resolve the topographic isolation amid the widespread surrounding area, establishing a new cultural image. Our proposal depicts Dayang Mountain as an ancient painting, where the image composition is artfully ornamented with cloud element. A simple substance that drifts with air-like nature, effortlessly renders the mountain into a picturesque landscape; yet at the same time seeks to augment the existing quality into a new level of interconnected system – a 21st century mountain park. The overall formation of the system is carefully shaped to reserve the mountain sacred atmosphere. Generous stretches outline the serene linear paths; inviting passerby for a contemplative stroll around the mountain base, as well as to ascend naturally towards the distant summit. An intimate experience with the environment of the mountain from new point of views. The summit area is the milestone of the journey; a trail beacon that connects all the steps and paths ascending from the mountain base. New landscaping is layered upon the extensive zone of the existing road; setting the atmosphere of the prior constructed contour afresh. This summit park is cherished by the continuous walking system with phenomenal aspiration; winding around the series of summits, rhythmically floats on impulse evoking its air-like peculiarity. The homogeneity of the system embodies a sense of connection throughout the vast landscape of the mountain. A simplicity engineered with long span adeptness and consistent finesse, where the concave and convex detailing is absent. This composite deck superstructure lightly floats with minimal supporting structure, dissolving into the scenery. As a result, disturbance on the mountain natural ecosystem is also reserved to minimum.

Design description: We understand the slow-moving system as "life theatre." The source of inspiration for the slow-moving system is the space connected with the corridors in the Suzhou Garden, connecting the various activity spaces and attractions and villages of Dayangshan, and at the same time giving it a variety of functions to make Dayangshan a sightseeing spot and a community leisure activity space. Sports ground.

ESCAPE
YB36568-S17496

To escape from the urban life and finding oneself in the nature in varies way. The mission for the design is to create a space for people to rest, relax, and retreat, more importantly, to heal mental stress, strengthen physical body, and enhance local business. To connect all the attractions in the park, it is necessary to promote a new trail that incorporates with the existing driveway and walkway. Instead of implanting a new system on top of the existing hillside, another way to achieve this goal is to carve into the landscape and submerge the new system with the nature. The new system will be the “tunnel” inside the mountain. It creates a separation between biker, pedestrian and driver, which enhance the safety between vehicle and people. The “tunnel” is varies in size and openness; fully enclosed or partially enclosed based on the functionality. There are two “tunnel” connect to the existing walkway; one for pedestrians and one for bikers. Additional option available for biker, which will be biking among the existing driveway, new bike lane marked on the road. Additionally, suspended platform occurs along the “tunnel”; a place for people to look out to the city, breath in fresh air, and taking pictures. Moreover, along the commercial, business and agricultural zone, new “cave” like patio added along the bottom of the hillside for local farmers to sell their goods. The patio will be use as farmers market on the weekend or holiday season. The “tunnel” will be a playful experience of the natural light, the contrast between black and white, Not only looking forward to the brightness of the nature, but also facing the darkness of the nature.

Isle of the Immortals
YB36568-G38343

China’s romance with the garden typology began with Qin Shi Huang’s legendary quest to find the Isle of the Eight Immortals. It is said that the first Chinese garden was built in remembrance of the quest with an artificial lake built around an existing mountain and walls maintaining a strict perimeter. The UNESCO has identified the combined sites of eight Chinese gardens in Suzhou, as a World Heritage Site. The proposal seeks to build a continuum to this rich garden history of the city and hopes to re-examine the relevance of the garden typology in 21st century. The design is primarily divided into 4 key loops each encapsulating a key strategy: The Periphery: Much like the wall in a traditional Chinese garden, the design hopes to strictly regulate the periphery of the site through a host of strategies that range from porous to solid. Spirit walk: The heart of the project is a slow moving corridor that is located about mid way through the mountain that connects the 3 temples on site. This is the main public interface of the project with the loop designed to allow residents on either side of the mountain to get an opportunity to interact. Rammed earth is the primary building that guides the architecture of this loop. Sky walk: The existing motor able path has been dedicated to cyclists. The peaks have been enclosed with in a series of viewing walkways that allow visitors to transition between the east and west view. Orchard trail: The existing scenic village route has been linked into the larger framework of the spirit walk and the also to the community to the north of the site which were previously isolated. A weekly and daily farmers market and a seed bank has been planned to better integrate the community.

The design starts with a question, what the path should be in the nature environment? Thus, the concept of the whole project is: invisible path. It fully integrates into the existing nature condition and provide a wild experience for the visitors. As a result, the path is an invisible creek, smoothly and naturally goes along the mountain The path works as a various linkage to connect anchor points. In master plan, it creates 5 themes, to adapt with existing cultural and society condition: 1. Water park loop, 2. Cultural Loop, 3. Tea Field Loop, 4. Forest Loop, 5. Village Loop. The same path has various performance to adapt to the themes as DNA element. It consists of different material, different branch system, different arrangement, and spread out into the big-scale urban content. The special fence texture of the path make it softer at one side and harder at the other side, naturally divide the circulation between walking(soft surface) and running(hard surface).

High efficiency, fast pace, and the massive crowd are three symbols of modern society, which traffic is always related to all of them. Under this circumstance, “slow” is always an ideal concept but hardly can be realized. However, Dayang Mountain, a large green space surrounded by the “high fast massive” urban environment, would extract the word “slow” based on the project “slow traffic system”. Our interpretation towards “slow traffic system” also has three keywords: humanity, sustainability, and slow pace. To be precise, they can be expanded as: accessible, safe, healthy, sustainable, hierarchical, recycled, economical, and historic. Four types of comprehensive analysis generated by GIS data assist us to match these goals precisely. From these, a hierarchical structure of the slow traffic system was created. Bau and Bambus are two German words which mean “construction” and “bamboo”. According to our investigation, Dayang Mountain area holds a large number of bamboo resources. Borrowed from Bauhaus, we created the word Baubambus to show the construction from this natural creation.

"In Jing'an house, every day facing the willow in front of the window, gazing at the distant; looking at the post, the spring faded and the flowers fell to the ground." the ancients chanted "post" is to express feelings, now, hurry you and me, the journey is no longer difficult to find a place to live. This design aims to inherit and develop the function of "post" in ancient China by combining the elements of Suzhou traditional culture with "post", "stay by post, keep an eye on it; pass on the message by post, convey feelings by “post", and form a multifunctional slow-moving system which can meet the needs of walking, riding, resting and sightseeing as well as various services at the same time. This design takes post as the node, combines the terrain and the existing scenic spots layout slow system: east of Yangshan, adjacent to the urban interface, according to the mountain to erect the air slow lane and city overlooking; north, with Shushan village as the background, and the existing trestle Road connected to a slow lane shuttled between the fruit forest and farmland can be seen in the air between the ancient village ; to the south, the entrance and exit of the slow lane dock with the scenic spots and traffic hub.

YB36568-G38972

During this design, we combine four different walking systems , and balance the functions of the system and the traffic flow. It not only ensures the relative independence of the diversified behavior, but also makes the whole system interconnected and complete.

In the overall planning, on the basis of respecting the original conditions of the base, the picking experience area, the cable car, the mine theme museum are placed in the foothill area, in order to presere and utilize the original resources ,and also enrich the diversity of leisure travel activities in the area. Let the Dayang Mountain area be feasible, and the history of the mines and villages around the base will not be erased. In the construction of the walking system, the characteristics of Dayang Mountain are mainly reflected in the fact that it is the second highest mountain in Suzhou and can overlook Taihu Lake. Combining the viewing angles of the medium-sized landscape in the landscape of Chinese painting, and trying to give the poetic landscape experience of Dayang Mountain. The paintings of the painters Guo Xi and Guo Si of the Song Dynasty "Lin Quan Gao Zhi" - "There are three mountains: from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain, that is, the 'high far'; from the front of the mountain and after the peek, it is called 'deep'; The Wangyuan Mountain is called 'Pingyuan'. New Project
YB36568-S17715

Main Concept In order to tackle problems which related to Cultural, urban and natural layers, several stations are taken into consideration. It is hard to climb from mountains and connect both sides of the site to reduce isolation atmosphere of mountainous. This concept suggests some stations which connected to each other. This method provides more comfortable pedestrian ways for visitors as well as several observation towers in different locations of the site. Also, with this ways there is no need for deforestation and people will be able to walk on top of With this type of slow traffic system, it is easier for visitors to get around without getting tired. also, these various stations provide unique landscapes. In addition, the mountain now better connected with other ways and environment due to the fact that pedestrian ways and cycling routes are covered whole the area. By connecting Entry stations, some intersection points are shown. it helps to manage ways through the mountain with more efficiency.

Natural Artifice
YB36568-S17712

The very act of natural conservation itself is a gesture of artificiality. Natural Artifice, our proposed project for the Dayang mountain and conservation area is a recognition of this condition. By the application of a demarcated zone of preservation for the mountain, that itself is an act of artificiality, defining what is inside and outside. Through this act of framing, nature, even in its rawest form, is already captured and bound. Rather than shying away from this reality, the project seeks to materialise this condition into a tangible form; to make explicit this reality. This is first and foremost achieved by setting up a traffic circulation perimeter around the base of the mountain, in accordance with the conservation boundary, consisting of bicycle, pedestrian and at segments, vehicular access. Using a consistent material finish, for both building and paving, a sense of coherence is achieved across the entire site, a continuous frame around the mountain. Various pavilions are placed at regular intervals along the route, providing rest and amenities. Their typologies vary according to the specific requirements per their location along the route, e.g. where they are also a base point for mountain paths etc. Vehicular circulation is only included between 2 new centres of activity at the base of the mountain. A small village centre and a new public plaza. A funicular rail is set up between the plaza and a peak building at the top of the mountain. The peak building is the centre for a main pathway along the ridge of the mountain. Pavilions are also placed at different nodes along these trails. Even with the formlessness of these pathways, by the application of material consistency along the perimeter circulatory route, it provides structure across the site, anchoring the Dayang mountain district as a framed piece of nature.

Golden ridge
YB36568-S17737

Suzhou’s street network is well integtated in overall network. The site has a big potential for development. Dayang Mountain is surrounded with various attractive points. The idea of project is to connect all of them and make convinient to visit. The form was born from relief’s lines. Connection all sights along 5 km by thin thread must preserve nature. Project consists of three parts. 1. Golden ridge. Traditional mountain winding paths lead to the top. The slope is comfortable for people of all ages- from 12% to 18%. Pedestrian and cycling track are divided by green stripes of grass. This form is supported by thin regular columns, making the solid sculpture. These paths always take their starts in some attractive point: botanical garden, waterland and road from vanke, spa resort, shushan village and railway station on south and north. The circular viewing area is located the highest point and combined with new enclosed waterfall. 2. Relief cut. The circular road 8 km long surrounds dayang mountain. It is absolutely flat, following the horizontal of relief. So it is ideally fit running track and very comfortable for elder and disabled people. All routes are non-motor. However, people have a possibility to lead the top by separated highway and park their car to continue a trip on flat road by feet. 3. The important point is to preserve temple complex with minimum changes to cultural sight. So the road is preserved in original condition with changing paving. This existing route is connected with new route by lift. All this system makes up a thin sculpture on the mountain in traditional Chinese colors - gold and red. New traffic flow brings a new life for all existing attractive points.

YB36568-G39823

"One path to hold the mountains, actually between the cities." It is Su Shi's description of the poems of the Canglang Pavilion and the outside world. Based on the location relationship of Dayangshan, we regard Dayangshan as the “garden” of Suzhou, and design the slow-moving system by means of gardening, so that people have a rich and varied viewing experience in this slow-moving system. Because Dayang Mountain is located in the high-tech development zone of Suzhou, it is not only a natural resource but also a development obstacle for Suzhou City. In this regard, we hope that the slow-moving system can be used as a cultural carrier to explore and spread local culture, thus activating the regional vitality of the Dayangshan area. We design from both online and offline aspects.           Online: The Dayangshan Slow System App introduces information media as a medium of communication and also makes the functions in the slow system more convenient.           Offline: The Dayangshan Station Design Festival and other activities make the interior space of Dayang Mountain diverse, and also the carrier of its cultural development.

Oscar Wilde once said in "Prison Story" that "we seem to prefer to watch nature, but rarely live with nature." This sentence just states the state of alienation between people and nature. We try to use the questioning of natural propositions as an important perspective of the creation of this conceptual design creation, and explore two types of states. The “natural growth” state of slow-moving roads: We extracted some elements from nature, such as cells, the roots of trees, and further abstracted them to construct a diversified, primitive growth slow system. The external world of the viewer and the state of "natural growth" of the inner world: let everything return to nature, let people return to the mountains, and let people's thinking return to freedom. Explore the relationship between the natural landscape of the outside world and the natural representations of the heart. "Going to the sun", toward the sun, toward the lush green of Dayang Mountain. Like a child, with curiosity, go to the mountains, go to the farmland, and do more interesting things.

A Suzhou Garden unfolds, rescales and reflects inherent wild landscape and establishes unique dialogues between the users and the ‘Shan Shui’ through spatial and temporal mediums. The user experience and connection to the Suzhou Dayang Mountain should reflect this approach, creating a system that is ephemeral and celebratory of its ‘Shan Shui’. Our approach explored establishing a meaningful experience within the landscape through the lens of how users would enjoy the space through either active or passive activities. Our aim was to create a unique dialogue between the site and the activities, while linking back to the demands of the specific users. As a result, the slow traffic network and sequences of experiences motivated the users to move through the site with purpose. Through this, our path network became the thread that tied the mountain with the city ands its people. Accessing quality spaces should be universal. For this site to truly have an extensive and positive impact on the health and culture of the surrounding city, our slow traffic system approach focused on paths that were welcoming and inclusive for all ages, abilities and socio demographics.

Located on the northwest Suzhou suburban area, Dayang Mountain is currently a wall separating  Tongan Town, Shushan Village and Qingfeng Village on the west from the wide covering factories, high-end residence and entertainment facilities of the Suzhou New District on the east. While the surrounding areas are gradually extruded by “vehicle scale”, the mountain functions as a guardian of the local environment and culture. Although, the peace and quietness of the resorts could be preserved, visitors might also be blocked out of the area. By borrowing the underlying Suzhou landscaping tradition presented by Moon Gate ‘REVEAL BY CONCEAL’, we wish to not only satisfy needs of different type of people, but also take them onto a journey that is both dazzling and placatory.

Urban Network | Mountain Trail
YB36568-G40098

Situated in the high-tech development zone between downtown Suzhou and Tai Lake Nature preservation area, Dayang Mountain is an overlap of the city and nature. However, the mountain today is an enclave of untouched nature, a topographic barrier, a pure traveling destination in a developing area. By introducing a slow traffic system, we stitch Dayang Mountain into the urban context as a “green core,” an urban park to improve the quality and attraction of the whole area. Rather than merely a natural sightseeing trail, what we proposed here is a circuits system as infrastructure and urban public space network to connect the mountain to its surrounding context, to unfold its unique history and culture, to support the emergence of future programs. The program-based slow traffic system generates a spatial structure of the site. It is a network of a path spatial instinct path for walking, running and cycling. Based on the circuit framework, considering the surrounding urban programs and the natural and cultural resources within Dayang Mountain, several identical program areas, such as agritourism area, forest sports and adventure area, religious culture and art area and so on, are imagined to emerge. The cycling systems provide skeleton connections between program areas and the urban traffic system while a series of more detailed experience and more flexible connections are brought by the walking and running system. Spatial path prototypes are designed to correspond to various topographic and programmatic conditions. At each joint of a cycling system and walking and running system, an artifact is placed[Lighthouse]. It is a 12-meter tall structure, serving as a beacon to guide the way, a rest stop to provide shelter and supplies and a milestone to give identity to the slow traffic system. The artifacts enhanced the visual connection of activities at different joints, generating a layer of the visual network. Physically, visually and programmatically, the slow traffic system manages to unify the Dayang Mountain into its urban context with its identity enhanced.

The way to read the poem slowly ‘慢’为之豁达,淡定的心境。 Slow" is open-minded and calm mood. Slowly up, looking at the mountains, only feel that the countryside is like a star distribution, haunting between clouds and mist. So the mountains and woods have to be intoxicated. "Diffuse" from water, from man, man also sound. It means "extension". Shallow songs can also be seen in Changan. Wander around, let people forget the busy work and the noise of the city for a while.

Suzhou, a city built upon mountains and water landscape. It is a historic city recognized by UNESCO along the Grand Canal of China. Rivers gives birth to the Suzhou culture, stimulates the regional economic and political development, and connects the local lives. LIUDA, strolling and ambling. Water from the canal greets the visitors and introduces the view to Dayangshan Mt in distance. While meandering, visitors will be one part of this picturesque landscape painting. The design is inspired by the depth of field in Chinese Shanshui Painting, and the multi-layering of space in Suzhou Garden. Starting from the Grand Canal, we uses the existing rivers and canals to create waterfront scenic promenades, which lead people into the trails of Dayangshan Mt. The design introduces the pedestrian system from the existing fast-paced urban automobile flows. The slow walking system will then merge into the flows within Shanshui painting--the Dayangshan Mountain itself. The local culture is also based on the Shanshui. The slow system connects the existing historic and cultural sites in Dayangshan Mt. Within the landscape, the paths merges and divides into different categories such as scenery, sports, and exploration, to satisfy the needs of a diversified user group. The paths also open up the villages in the mountain to the urban flow of economics. LIUDA takes advantages of the historic shanshui-based culture of Suzhou City, connects the Dayangshan with the modern Suzhou, and communicates between urban and natural in the area.

Slow Wind
YB36568-G40494

The willow catkins are light and the flowers are thin. Dayang Mountain is rich in vegetation, is the best place for forest recreation, through the construction of a slow system, people can listen to the wind, see the wind, smell the wind and touch the wind, fully feel the forest brings people physical and mental enjoyment. This design reintegrates the resources of the current site, and has been excavated and upgraded. And through the series of walking and bicycle lanes for different groups of people to bring different experience, users in the walk to listen to the wind with the sound of trees, to see the wind with windmills, to smell the wind with flowers, to touch the wind with trestle. Man and nature merge into one, and experience the joy of nature with the experience of wind.

Sustainable transportation in Dayanag National Forest Park. Sustainable transportation is meant a new choice for improvement of our urban life. People is tired of the bustling and hustling in our surrounding. So it is the time to make the change. We can take some strategies to slow down our ways. For example, riding the bike and taking bus can reduce the air pollution, and it maybe will accelerate the speed we arrive our destination as well as. First, we connect the existing routine . And it will be a benefit for the near residents in Venke residence, they can get close to the park easier than before. We plan some function of urban farm, residents will be satisfied of planting the agricultural produce themselves. Some people from cities nearby will enjoy the slow life in farm, the farmer in the north of the park would obtain some extra revenue. The planning of transportation system in Dayana National Forest Park could be a huge effect for the people nearby, and the sustainability of the economical circle will be profitable.

YB36568-G40864

Analyzing the geographical location, which is the green core for Suzhou New District, as well as the demand of four target user groups, the design proposed the idea of traffic loop around Dayang Mountain with a combination of varied of modes of transportation. The design integrates the complexity of slope with Moebius Strip and develops Infinite Dayang Mount concept not only for the physical shape but also the developing sustainable method for the mount. To facilitating the surrounded neighbourhood, the proposal involves the tram and intersect the rail for efficiency proposes by taking advantages of the existing tunnel. Confronting with life scenario of four target user groups, there gather node is proposed. In these specific area, the idea of tearing lines for the surface is adapted to accommodate people activities. The pedestrian loop near mountain top links the existing scenic spot and renders the zigzag circulation. The existing road alongside the ridge is extended to the main roads.

JIANGNAN IMPRESSION
YB36568-G40964

The site originates from Suzhou, it inherits all the traditional features of areas southern to Changjiang River (‘Jiangnan’). The word ‘impression’, full of the yearning for Jiangnan style, showing the enthusiasm for Jiangnan life, “Jiangnan Impression ” is designed to give Dayang Mountain a new life. Busy city and fast-paced life can be compromised by Dayang Mountain; Tranquil space and elegant walking can be offered by it. The Slow Traffic system integrates rich landscape resources such as history, humanities, and environment, providing residents and tourists with a slow-moving experience, sitting, walking, exercising, cycling... different ways realize the same slow-paced life.

Stitch Walk
YB36568-G41067

Suzhou is revered by peer cities for its splendid historic and cultural heritage, extraordinary growth, energy, and vibrancy. Dayang Mountain Forest Park is located east of Tai Lake and ten kilometers northwest of Downtown Suzhou. It is surrounded by multiple public projects, Suzhou Amusement Land Forest Water World and Forest World, Dayang Botanical Garden, and several hotels. The site also has a wide variety of natural and historic resources. Half of the site is forested and it has great potential to attract people with a well-designed, slow-traffic system. Sushan Village, in the north of Dayang Mountain Forest Park, has beautiful agricultural fields of pears, chestnuts and tea. Historical landmarks, such as caverns, Wenshu Temple, Banshan Pavilion and Fenghuang Temple, surround the site. Despite the impressive landscape and tourist attractions, Dayang Mountain is not as competitive as other forest parks in Suzhou. The existing path and boardwalk is only located around Wenshu Temple. The primary nodes, such as Shushan village, temples, and surrounding attractions, are lacking in accessibility and connection. The fire lane cutting through the mountain disjoins the landscape and causes even more isolation. How can the nodes be activated and conjugated? How can circulation system strength and interact with the landscape? What will attract visitors and help guide them through the landscape? Suzhou has a unique embroidery style called Su Embroidery, which is famous for its fine texture of threads, balanced composition, and variable stitch work. The landscape of Dayang Mountain acts as the fabric. The pathways and bike lanes are the split silk threads stitching through the terrain. The embroiderer crafts an artful array with a needle and different treads. We, as designers, connect the existing nodes by weaving through the trees, rocks, and fields, layering new programs for every user, and stitching the incongruities into a unified embroidery artwork.

Dimensional slow
YB36568-G41474

This design is based on the special height difference of the existing plot (including the break point, the exposed rock, etc.) to carry out the stratification design. With "ecological development, slow walk" as the theme, the junction line forms mutual penetration in the three dimensional space, stretching the spatial level, further echoing the concept of slow walk and achieving the development of ecological rationality.

Our design starts from the relationship among man-mountain-path to make the slow traffic system in the site from isolated to symbiotic. 怎样的联系方式是合理且生动有趣的?(减少人工侵入,又能有效串联) Existing scenic spots stand at the foot of the mountain, or stand between the mountains. The original slow traffic system starts from the various scenic spots, extending vertically from the foot to the peak, along the ridge. Each occupies a corner of the mountain so that the entire area is divided into different small scenic spots, each isolated and single function. What kind of contact is reasonable and interesting? (reduce artificial invasion and connect effectively) The natural relationship between mountains and clouds brings us an inspiration. The experience of traveling in the mountain can be like the way clouds circle around the mountain. We try to increase different paths parallel to contour lines in the mountain to strengthen the transverse contact of the mountain, to form the kind of wandering experience climing along the clouds at the foot of the moutain, chasing along the clouds in the middle of the mountain, and relaxing in the clouds on the top of the mountain. At the same time, the form of the slow traffic system strives to be lighter and blend with natural landscape.

WELLNESS MOUNTAIN PLAN

(Dawn to Dusk)
YB36568-G42382

The design is based on the characteristics of the north and south of Dayang Mountain, with the center of Suzhou in the east and the Taihu Lake in the west. Morning to see the city, sunset to view lake, the different time of a day, the different scenes of mountain east and west. This design is mean to lead visitors to experience the sunrise and the sunset scenes, to feel the scenes exchanging with time in the nature. The greenway system is based on the existing road system as a supplement, adding new bike lanes 30 km, new footpath 8 km, contacting new residential areas, forest park, garden, agriculture and forestry production area. Ten view service points are set, which names are Muxiang(暮飨), Chenchui(晨炊), Muxiao(暮啸), Chenming(晨鸣), Mugu(暮鼓), Chenzhong(晨钟), Muji(暮霁), Chenlin(晨霖), Mu`ai(暮霭), Chenxi(晨曦), respectively using down and dusk as the theme to build characteristic point of recreation in the greenway system. For example, Muxiang and Chenchui are close to Shushan Village and take agritainment as the theme. The new greenway system will help Dayang Mountain Forest Park to integrate surrounding green space resources, build an overall green space system, activate surrounding environment, optimize industrial structure and create an ecological recreation circle.

While Loop
YB36568-S646

Cut a part of the mountain as a part of the city, and put the activities of city life in it. So Slow Traffic System can grow up with these activities. Now a small community was formed on the top of the mountain. There are different places surrounding it gradually changing from the city style to nature style. There are different passageways starting from it to scenic spots. We organized loops with different requirements in different types, which intersect with each other. When walking in different loops, people can experience places of various activities at any time.
